The RailsWest Railroad Museum, housed in the historic Rock Island Depot, illustrates Council Bluff’s rich railroad history. The Rock Island Depot is the last remaining passenger depot in Council Bluffs and was built in 1899. Experience real railcars and locomotives, step back in time in the beautifully restored Depot and enjoy the extensive HO-scale model train display. See Council Bluff’s railroad past come alive at the RailsWest Railroad Museum.

For Railroad Days, come and help us celebrate the long history between our Military and the Railroad. During WW II alone, over 6,000,000 service men and women were transported through this area on railroads. See posters, memorabilia and uniforms from that and other war times in our Nation’s past. Purchase a popcorn ball from our “Canteen” and live a piece of U.S.O Canteen history or learn about our own communities experiences with the “Troop Trains” and sit back and enjoy the period music!
